Anesthesia update

Hey guys!

It’s been a few days since I last posted… I guess it’s always kind of nuts around here. Saturday night I went out with some of my friends and it was wild and crazy, and then when I got home my boyfriend was here! He came in to surprise me and I was really excited!

On Sunday morning we got up fairly early and went to the gun range to practice shooting my boyfriend’s new gun. I didn’t like his new gun as much as the rental Glock 19 that we had been shooting previously, mostly because it felt a little too big for my hands and had more recoil. Even so, I still wound up shooting way better than he did :)

After going to the gun range, we went out to the park to let the dogs run for a bit. We hiked about three miles and spent most of the afternoon just playing with the girls. It was a great way to relax and nice opportunity to spend some quality time with my boyfriend.

As you know I’m still on the anesthesia rotation, but for my last two weeks of school (eek!!!) I am on small animal anesthesia. Sleeping small animals terrifies me more than sleeping the horses. They seem so fragile to me, and they’re always coming in with severe problems that make them terrible anesthetic candidates. So far I haven’t had any problems, but I’m just waiting for something bad to happen. Yesterday I didn’t sleep any animals because my scheduled patients kept getting rescheduled. Today I slept a dog for a TPLO surgery and stifle arthroscopy which took about four hours total. It actually went really well, and the dog was very consistent under anesthesia so we didn’t have any problems. I’m still not exactly looking forward to the next two weeks.

Finally, I also have a confession to make. I’m currently in hiding. A couple of my friends want to go out tonight and I really just don’t feel up to it. I haven’t been getting enough sleep lately, and staying out late in the middle of the week sounds awful to me. Right now I’m at my house, with my phone turned off so I won’t feel guilty if my friends try to call or text.  When I turn it back on in a couple of hours I’m going to claim that I fell asleep and missed going out. Does that make me a terrible person?

That’s all for tonight, I’m going to try to be a little more consistent this week and write again tomorrow!
