Day 2 – The trail to Merced Lake

Day 2 dawned bright and early, and super cold!

We took our Day 2 picture out by the river while we were filtering and refilling our water containers.

Due to some unforeseen weather circumstances, the path that we intended to take on day 2 was snowed in. We chose a different trail, one that didn’t ascend to such high altitudes, and struck out for Lake Merced.

Per usual, we took a few pictures along the way:

(You don’t even want to know how many tries that picture took!)

The views were amazing from the tops of the domes.

The trail to Lake Merced was just under 9 miles from our campsite at Little Yosemite Valley, so we had quite a hike in front of us. Although we made quite a few stops along the way for snacks and breathers at the top of some of the climbs, we finally made it to the lake.

We set up camp in another backpackers’ camping area.

And here was our dinner set-up for day 2.

We were pretty beat from the hike so again we headed to bed pretty early.

Not too early to build a sweet fire in our fire pit though ;)

The best part of the story is yet to come!
