Schooling the Texas Rose Horse Park

On Saturday a barn buddy of mine and I loaded up the horses and drove to Tyler, TX to school the cross country course at the Texas Rose Horse Park.

The one thing I didn’t think about when planning the XC schooling was that Texas Rose is the location of the American Eventing Championships, so these courses are all maxed out for their levels. What did this mean in the grand scheme of things?

Tina, who had never schooled XC, had no baby jumps to jump. She was only able to walk through the water and jump a faux-ditch, otherwise she just hacked around. For me, it meant that when I had told the trainer we were schooling Beginner Novice and Novice, we really only needed to do the BN jumps because the Novice course was so large.

Here are some photos from the weekend:

We had a really fun time, and it was a great learning experience for my baby horse. It was also the first time my husband has been able to come watch me, so that was pretty cool too. We were exhausted when we got home that night!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
